Comprehensive and Coordinated Services

Each student is different and brings his or her unique personality to our educational and residential programs.

In respecting each student's individuality and potential, and to achieve the best results for each student, the programs of St. Christopher and the Greenburgh-North Castle Union Free School District work together to create a safe and supportive structure for youngsters. We provide an environment where there is continuous coordination between school personnel and the professionals providing residential, medical, clinical, and social services. This coordination is particularly important when serving youths who require intensive services and a high level of supervision.

Planning and coordination of services for each student is conducted by a multidisciplinary team, including teachers, guidance counselors, psychologists, social workers, cottage counselors, and activities staff. The primary objective of residential placement at St. Christopher's is to assist young people with their educational and therapeutic needs and to allow them to return to the care of their families as soon as possible.

Our comprehensive behavior management program also provides a structured learning and social environment and allows school staff, residential staff and other team members all to work within one system. Clinicians utilize cognitive behavioral and other evidenced-based approaches to treat problematic behaviors presented by the residents. Our renovated Family Visitation Center provides a calm setting where family members can visit with their child and work with clinical staff to better understand the needs and build on the strengths of their child.

We provide each residential student with a safe, home-like environment. While participating in our program, students live in an age appropriate setting. They are encouraged to personalize their bedrooms but must also learn to share a common space. Meanwhile, counselors assist with activities of daily living and the development of independent living skills. They guide youngsters in everyday decision-making and problem-solving, support academic and co-curricular involvement, and support involvement in therapeutic services.
