Day-Hab Programs for Young Adults Developmental Disabilities

St. Christopher's services include neighborhood-based programs for young adults with developmental disabilities. Our goal in providing this program is to offer individuals and families the best, highly accessible and professional neighborhood-based services in order to prepare clients for an independent and productive future.

The St. Christopher's Day Habilitation Program, based in the Bronx, provides individual assistance to young adults in teaching life sustaining skills, enhancing their independence, and encouraging them to become and remain active, productive members of their communities. The Day Habilitation program fosters community awareness, peer group social interaction, enhanced family participation, and increased self-esteem and self-confidence. The programs' bilingual and bicultural staff members, individually and as a team, are committed to helping the developmentally disabled lead the most productive, independent, and rewarding lives possible.

The goal of Day Habilitation is to guide each participant toward his or her highest level of independence by developing, through work readiness, the necessary skills for self-care, communication, community integration and social awareness. To accomplish these goals, we offer our clients a variety of services, designed to correspond with each person's individual strengths and needs. Services include:

  • Assistance with improvement and attainment of self-help ability
  • Development of acceptable social behaviors
  • Development of communication skills
  • Adaptive skills and development of perceptual and manual motor skills

Through these services, we encourage each participant to strive and recognize their full potential despite his or her disability. Additional information regarding St. Christopher’s Day-Habilitation program is available from Luis Bravo, Program Director, at lbravo@sc1881.org or 718-742-0921
