REACH Program
The REACH program provides education, residential, and clinical services for students who are cognitively limited with intensive treatment needs, including those with autism spectrum disorders. It is administered through the coordinated efforts of St. Christopher's and the Greenburgh-North Castle (GNC) School District, which work closely together to provide a safe, supportive structure for these challenged students.
The goal of treatment in REACH, with consideration for the significant disabilities faced by the youngsters, is to teach appropriate behaviors and help the students develop the cognitive, social and life skills required to interact in the larger world.
The curriculum is multi-faceted and prepares students for either an IEP or Local diploma. REACH features highly individualized academic classes in conjunction with a strong vocational emphasis that includes horticultural, customer service and grounds/building maintenance. Job shadowing opportunities, internships and paid work experience are also available to students as part of their vocational training program and individualized transition plan. Another strength of REACH is the coordinated transition process with educational, residential and clinical staff, local and state agencies including The Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD), Office of Mental Health (OMH) and Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID)-VR.
