Social Services

When each student is admitted into St. Christopher's as a residential student in the Greenburgh-New Castle (GNC) school district, a social worker or clinician becomes the primary contact concerning the plan and progress for that child.

An initial meeting is held with each new student and his or her family to identify the strengths and challenges to be considered, in addition to the services indicated in the student's Individualized Educational Program. A plan with the goal of supporting personal and academic growth is developed around the unique needs of the youngster.

Social work staff members consult with each family regarding their concerns and support them in planning for transition home and transition toward independence. Social workers make a home visit prior to the beginning of overnight home visits and develop plans with families regarding how to manage their youngster when he or she arrives for visits. For families where home visits are not yet an option, the Family Visitation Center on the Dobbs Ferry campus is used to maintain contact between students and their families.
